Art and creativity have always been a vital part of my life.
Liz Gilbert
Headteacher | Cygnets Art School North East Cheshire
Meet Liz
My journey started with a passion for life drawing, which led me to fall in love with textile design. I was fascinated by how images could transform into patterns and textures.
I earned a degree in Textile Design and Surface Pattern at Bretton Hall College of Education in West Yorkshire. After that, I became a freelance designer, creating repeat patterns for wallpaper and fabric.
Later, after having a family, I started an out-of-school club at my daughter’s primary school. It was a wonderful experience that allowed me to create a nurturing, fun and creative environment. This experience helped me develop another important skill set alongside my creative side. Working in an educational setting inspired me, and I eventually became a Learning Support in the SEND department, this time in a secondary school.
Art and creativity have always been a vital part of my life, and I am so happy to bring my experience and passion to Cygnets.
Cygnets’ ethos and approach encourage natural creativity, helping students build confidence and express themselves freely. This step-by-step approach allows skills to grow, class by class, creating a free-flowing process. I am thrilled to be able to bring this to my local community.
