We’re back with the next instalment of our Meet the Teacher series, where we introduce the talented and passionate artists who make the Cygnets community so special.
This month, we’re delighted to introduce Jess, one of our brilliant teachers at Cygnets Putney. With a background in fine art and a love for helping children discover their creative potential, Jess brings both skill and enthusiasm to every class she teaches. Let’s get to know her a little better…
Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
I studied at The London Fine Art Studios where I learnt the core foundations of proportion, gesture and colour in drawing, painting and sculpture.
What is your area of expertise?
In my own time, I enjoy painting with acrylic and watercolour, with a focus on still life and portraits.
What is your favourite thing about teaching?
Watching the children improve and their confidence grow. Sometimes the children arrive at a class and are convinced they won’t be able to draw what’s on the board, but an hour later, after step by step instructions, they have something they can be proud of! It’s very rewarding to watch and know you are helping them to improve.
What is your favourite thing to draw or create?
I love painting animals – I think the children enjoy being able to give them a personality and also learn some fun facts about the creatures at the same time. At Cygnets’s, I’ve taught a range of wacky animals, from sculpting an armadillo out of clay and printing an immortal jellyfish with ink!
